Classic Canines Non-Profit Website Redesign

As a way to give back to the community through service, my team was given the task of redesigning the website of a local non profit organization. Classic Canines promotes awareness and cares for senior dogs currently available for adoption in Austin area animal shelters. This project provided an opportunity to create effective solutions that made an impact in our community. Read below to see why we focused on the question, "Why are users unaware of Classic Canines?"

Problem

Classic Canine’s purpose is to facilitate donations, adoptions and fosters of senior dogs, but their organization needs more recognition. Their social media is well-run however their website lacks appeal and organization, making it difficult to reach their goals.

How might we help animal loving users gain awareness of the services Classic Canines offers and provide an outlet for their efforts to aid senior dogs currently in need of rescue.

Research

With a thorough analysis and heuristic analysis of the Classic Canines existing website, user research began with a wide reaching online survey as well as interviews with target audience users.

Research data was synthesized with the team to reveal insightful details about unexpected core user groups. Out of the three new user personas discovered, Francisco the Foster Dad rose to the top as a critical user for the organization's functionality.

New Site Objectives and Key Results

  • Encourage quick, easy, recurring donations. We suggested accomplishing this via new promotions, quick donate buttons, and virtual sponsoring.
  • Education and Spreading awareness. This could be achieved with a new FAQ section and pages specifically for foster and adoption information.
  • increase dog adoptions. Adding a page for dog profiles, quick reference, as well as a friendlier look and feel to replace the current sad discouraging site tone.

Senior dogs are finished with many of the problems of their youth. They are ready to relax!

User feedback:

• Website is clean, simple, and easy to navigate
• Need to fix minor details about page labels and layout of information
• Overall very cohesive and intuitive

Iterations

Upon submitting our designs to a panel of fellow designers, more feedback gave  further iterations.

As many products go, future A/B testing would be useful to gage functionality and ensure that the site follows current best practice conventions.
